Darst Dermatology offers personalized acne peels in Charlotte, Matthews, and the surrounding North Carolina communities.
What Is an Acne Peel?
If you’re struggling with persistent acne, an over-the-counter treatment may not have what it takes to get the problem under control. Dr. Darst offers superficial acne peels to people of all ages who have problem acne. Salicylic acid is usually used as the peeling agent.
How Does It Work?
An acne peel rapidly exfoliates your skin, which removes dead skin cells and prevents oil from clogging hair follicles and blocking pores – two primary causes of acne. This type of peel will also help kill bacteria that can cause cyclical breakouts.
Are There Any Side Effects?
An acne peel is the most superficial of all chemical peels. Following treatment, you should be able to resume normal activities. However, your face will probably look red and blotchy and may flake for a few days following treatment. Salicylic Acid is also in aspirin, so patients who are allergic to aspirin, ibuprofen, or other non-steroid anti-inflammatory agents (NSAIDS) should not have a salicylic peel. In these patients, Dr. Darst has other, non-salicylic peels available so you can still receive the same benefits of the acne peel.
